New AMR Plane In Development - 42% Piper PA-18 Supercub

Hello All,

Well now that the RV8 is all done I am beginning work on a 42% super cub. This is one of the most common request for AMR so I volunteered to do another plane for them! This will be a very scale design with the fuse being mainly stick built exactly to the original fuselage shape. I will still be adding a lot of nice tabbed construction to critical areas to make the plane a solid performer that will still be easy to build.

Here is what I got done last night. As you can see the fuse is drawn over a scaled down 3d sketch of the original fuselage. The front area will however be tabbed construction to keep the front area open for scale detailing yet strong.

Stay tuned for updates. I estimate this to be completed before September!

I'm interested in what you plan for the cockpit structure. I'm building a 1/3rd BUSA Supercub right now and there are some significant non-scale changes and compromises made in the cockpit structure. The wing/fuse connection is also an issue as far as strength goes. Looking forward to your solution.

Re: New AMR Plane In Development - 42% Piper PA-18 Supercub

Well here is some progress from last night and today...

The firewall is exactly the same as the full size just scaled down, the position is exactly the same, same with the panel, landing gear mounts etc. Everything will be exactly as the full size is. The only changes will be the uprights you can see are wider then scale to give it the required strength.

As you can see I am keeping it as scale as possible!

Re: New AMR Plane In Development - 42% Piper PA-18 Supercub

Here are the PA18 Ailerons and Flaps.

I kept them as scale as I possibly could while still making it easy to build. They are based off the original piper drawing
http://www.supercubproject.com/drawi...s/A3310190.pdf

They are exactly to scale the hinges are in the scale location so are the ribs and the truss pieces. The ribs that hold the hinges are straight in this to make assembly easier, so I angled the lightening holes so you will never tell.

Here are some early shots of the wing. The linkages are now in and the ailerons and flaps move very nice!!!

It is cool to simulate them in the computer!!! Wish I could show the movement some how.
