Dissappearing new post yellow folder display

Hi,

I've been trying to isolate a problem where the yellow folder dissappears for new posts when I check my PM's.

The yellow folder display is OK when I first enter the forums, that is, I have yellow folders displaying on the left side of the fourms for unread items. If I look at all the posts at this time, all is OK.

The problem seems to happen when I come to the forum, I then see the yellow folders, but I do not read anything in the forums. Instead, I select PMs to check and see if people have picked up messages in my "Out Box". When I return "Back" to the forums, all the yellow folder have been reset and I can not tell which forums have unread items in them, unless I look at the time and date from the last time I visited.

My questions is, would someone else check this for me and verify if it happens at their PC? I'm not sure if the problem is at my end or at RC Canada.

The check procedure would be:
Go to RC Canada forums, if you have yellow folders displaying, click on PM's before looking at the forums, then look at one of the categories by clicking on it, such as "Out Box". Then click on "Back" at the top of the screen and come back to the forums. After doing this, have the yellow folders been reset?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

They don't disappear for me, but there is a very short "timeout" period here where if you stay on for a little while and even if you don't look at new posts it sets your last visit time and eliminates new posts.
I've found it to be quite a short time and not sure what the logic in that is.

time out

Hi 4*60,

That may be it. It will be interesting if anyone else has any ideas.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I had posted about this some time ago (couldn't find it via 'search'). It's only good for when you first get into the forum. There will be yellow flags as you describe.

If you then leave the forum and re-enter, they're gone. The way it's set up, if you didn't read them the first time, you won't read them the second.

Just the way it is.

It's interesting to see how others interact with software ....

Myself, I generally use the "View all posts from last 24 hours" feature, and "visited links" colour codes for RCCanada.

It works for me. The only time I lose the yellow folders is when I exit the whole site and come back. The yellow folders are highlights to UNREAD posts. When you exit the site, you're basically saying you read the posts. That is an option you can select.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the information.

I just had it happen again. This time I entered the forums, looked at general discussions, created a reply to one of the general discussions post, went back to the forums and presto! all the yellow folders had dissappeared.

They dio not seem to dissappear if I just "browse" the forums and posts.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Frank78,

Thanks Frank78, I have been trying to track the problem and I also find that if I enter the site by clicking on the link provided by "admin" on automatic notification in my emails, that the yellow folders are not there.

Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one with the problem!

Gents,

The sesion length is set to 1 hour. The software checks to see what you have read based on a cookie that is set on your machine.
Are your security settings in your browser set to block cookies? Do you have a security package that blocks cookies?

I am not able to reproduce what you are describing, but some members have reported this in the past which is why we installed the 'View posts from last 24 hours' link.
