What spray paint for use on foamie?

Just looking to find out what brand of spray can paint I can safely use on a foamie.
The same would be for a spray can poly coating.

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: What spray paint for use on foamie?

When I paint military colors I always use Tamiya Acylics that you get at your LHS. For cavilian colors that are always Gloss in color. I love the Crylon Colors that you get from CT or HDepot. Carefull though! I use Crylon on EPO models. For the EPS you have to stick to a water based paint wich brings you back to any type of acylic.

The yellow plane is EPO and painted with CRYLON
The A-10 is EPS and painted with Tamiya Acylics.

And just a very usefull tip....NEVER MASK OFF on any type of foam! You will destroy the surface. You have to have someone hold any straight edges you have.

Vettster,

Any particular Crylon paint? I know they used to sell H20 brand but that is discontinued as far as I know.
Two planes I plane to paint are a GWS E-Starter and Parkzone Stryker. EPO and Elapor respectively, I believe.

Thanks,

This is what i used on my Jetiger and the telemaster Twin in the pic.
Didnt care about the finish on the Jetiger. It was purly for visability.

Sorry the pic is sideways

It tears open the styro cells that are smooth and leaves a very Ruff finish. Look closely at the Left wing in the red area. Dave put yellow tape on that wing for the maiden when the plane was alll white.

Vettster,

That picture(of spray can) is just what I needed!
Nice choice on the Jetiger. Thts basically what I am looking to do on my one Stryker....improve visibility

As to masking: What about using low tack painters tape? Can you forsee any problem with that?

Re: What spray paint for use on foamie?

low tack doesnt work either. not worth the risk in screwing it up if you care about the finish. just hold a straight edge or a pattern that you cut out, and spray with one hand or invite a buddy over for a beer. Just keep it simple.

Good luck

Thumbs up Re: What spray paint for use on foamie?

Trev,

Point well taken
I'm glad you mentioned this as I would indeed have gotten out the masking tape...whew!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond...especially with the pics.
I'll be sure to post pics when I get things completed.

Off to CTC I go...

Thanks again,
