Crazy or Genius??

I decided today that I really wanted to scratch build my own plane. I starting measuring and slapping things together. I must have glued my fingers to the frame at least 10 times but thats part of the hobby I guess. To my surprise this thing is starting to look good. But will it fly?, that is the question. I am planing on using a COX .049 for the power and the electronics will be the cheapest mini stuff I can get my hands on. Flight controls will be rudder and elevator.

Norm,

I think you may need a wing Seriously, it certainly looks like it will be light enough, should fly fine when finished.

Cheers!

The key with a cox reedie is to keep the weight RTF to about 16 to 18 ounces and enough wing (about 200 to 300 square inches) to support it.

Its REAL easy to get carried away with small airframes and overbuild, and end up heavy. Just remember light, light light!

if its got a wing or two and an engine - I like it!

Hey, I thought this was a poll???

Looks like a neat project, please keep a build thread going with some updates if you can. I'm real curious how it will turn out and how light you can get it.

Plane

I have done some more to it but nothing really noticeable yet. I'll post some more pictures tonight after building some more today. I had originally considered a twin project but my other COX .049 is pretty beat up. I am using real tiny light stringers from a rubber powered kit for the fuselage. The firewall is ply and I don't know if I should have used that (little heavy). The crazy or genius title is because I just started glueing without knowing where I was going with no plan in mind but hey it looks good. Thanks Dan

It's a fine line between crazy and genius, and usually easier to go to the crazy side.
That said, the 'frame as shown looks ok. Like the guys have said keep it light.
You might find it interesting that bigger planes than yours are flown with 049s. My Gentle Lady 2m flies on a Norvell big mig 049 and weighs approx 28 oz.
