Magnetic Prop Balancer
Always hated using the "fingertip" balancer.
Low friction magenetic method. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZmUB...ature=youtu.be

Re: Magnetic Prop Balancer
Made a new balancer that has the magnets spaced far enough apart so the mandrel only touches one. Extremely low friction.

Re: Magnetic Prop Balancer
I have a Top Flight and a Dubro ballancers that are just like you discribed. The only downside it they aren't tall enough to do the big props.

Re: Magnetic Prop Balancer
^^ You can use it in that configuration to do heli heads/blades too.

I balance my 24" props with that method - it works well.

Re: Magnetic Prop Balancer
Hey, also, for those who may have a dead brushless motor sitting around that still has good bearings check out this tip on a way to balance your props using the motor:
I know there are different schools of thought for how to balance the blades themselves (eg. tape, glue, sanding, etc.), but I thought the idea of using a magnet-free motor was cool. Cheers, J

Re: Magnetic Prop Balancer
That looks like a good way to be able to attach prop adapter and spinner to see how it balances with everything.

Re: Magnetic Prop Balancer
My thoughts exactly.
I was even doubting the dubro one because for the lighter stuff it seems to 'cog' and not be frictionless. For the small plastic/ GWS style props the hole is too small for the Great Planes magnetic one. I thought I was all set with the dubro one because it fits those props; however, they are so light that the friction (and there isn't much) of the dubro wheels seems enough to offset the readings. Maybe someone has some tips for me on that? How to oil a dubro balancer maybe? Anyway... let us know if you try the motor method to balance... I'd be interested in your results. Thanks, J
