Re: Vertical airplane storage
Gas or glo still highly recommended to defuel and burn off.gas tends to gum/gel after prolonged storage, not to mention is a fire hazard.just my humble 2 cents

For a four stroke engine with float bowls under the carb I agree with you. For two stroke engines, the oil mixed with the gas usually has fuel stabilizer built in, so we'll have to agree to disagree in that regard. |

Re: Vertical airplane storage
To each there own I will agree.
As I type I can just see" that guy " that shows up for a day of flying only to tinker with an engine he can't keep running.annoying the hell(revving up/down) out of me while I fly.then he wonders what went wrong and ends up doing a complete tear down in the pitts lol |

Re: Vertical airplane storage
I don't have any gas planes, but for weedwackers, I tend to drain the fuel from the tank, and leave the fuel in the carb. I don't run it off because the fuel keeps the diaphrams wet for the winter. Glow, ya, always drain the tank or you have a mess on the table, and later, the methanol evaporates, and you have thick castor oil in the tank for the next flight.

Re: Vertical airplane storage
Here is a tip when you have a finished hung ceiling... They make a metal plant hanger sold at Home Depot and as long as your ceiling is well supported you can hang from it. I have a toy room for display only..no work. I have replicated these using light aluminum and tin snips pretty easy too. Planes hung using rubber bungees sold for cheap at the $$$ store...they allow you to tilt plane and the rubber will grip to keep it tilted. Some hung down wall vertical and others horizontal.

Re: Vertical airplane storage
I like that bracket idea. My new place has a hung ceiling like that. I just popped up the tiles and made coat hanger wires. Yours looks much nicer. Here are some pics of the old house. I have almost moved out of it now. I have all the fuselages hung at the new house, but have no room for the wings. My ceiling is a bit low to walk under the planes if they are hung from the ceiling anywhere but the perimeter. I have the wings in the garage right now, but still have to bring a lot more of them over.
