I've found with good results thast if you use frisket paper to mask of straight lines or want a paint mask. Clip a 50% of coupon and get it at micheals.

I notice that Micheal's Arts & Craft Store has sheets of what looks like EPO and spray paint for foam. Anyone tried it? They had metallics there as well as primary colors.

Re: What spray paint for use on foamie?

Krylon H2O is still available from CT. I tried on FFF and it did not eat the foam. Not the best coverage though... especially white.

For clear, I use water based polyurethane which is foam safe. There are lots to choose from, but I'm not sure if they are available in spray can format:

- Minwax Polycrylic
- Benjamin Moore Stays Clear

As for masking on foam, I use a different technique....

1) Make sure the foam is completely clean. Use soap & water followed by rubbing alcohol to completely degrease the surface.

2) Start with the lightest color and don't bother to mask. Spray just past the line where you are going to mask later for the darker color.

3) Let dry for 24-48hrs, then mask for the darker colors with low tack painters tape on top of the lighter color you sprayed. Never apply tape directly to foam. Also ensure you cover the rest of the model with plastic or something to avoid overspray. Sometimes I can just get away with a bit of masking as my airbrush is very precise. Spray cans are a different story...

3) Spray the darker color. Peel the tape off after your last coat... before it dries. Worst case, you may peel a bit of the lighter color off and have to touch up. I have tried to lightly clear coat the lighter color before masking to give it a bit of resilience to the tape.

Different types of foam will behave differently. If possible, I would practice first on scraps, etc. so you get the hang of it.

Philipa: You are correct. I ended up grabbing some at my local home hardware. CTC only had two colours. The H2O goes on ok. I am in the process of painting up the plane now. I will post pics shortly. I am still deciding on final paint scheme.
