Getting into the Hobby

My son and I are considering purchasing a couple of Short Track type trucks. The two we have our eyes on are the Traxxas Slayer and the Team Associated SC8.

I am kinda split on these two, but I wanted to post here before I purchase to get some input on the Nitro VS Electric debate.

Can anyone give me a good reason why I should go Electric? I mean it looks like it's going to cost more up front for electric.

Also, what electric trucks are comparable in look/performance to the Slayer/SC8?

Basically I am looking for a "realistic" looking short track truck that performs well, but is also tough enough so I am not replacing parts constantly.

My budget is around 6-700 per truck and I plan on getting 2.

Re: Getting into the Hobby

For general bashing i think the Slash are pretty tough.I think they have a four wheel drive unit now..I've had many nitro and electrics over the years. The nitro stuff is cool with all the sounds and smells ect but it can be a PIA especially if your new to the hobby. The electrics are much more user friendly and fast but as you know cost up front is more expensive.
I'm sure alot of others will chyme in as the day goes on but thats one man's opinion for you.
Have fun

Re: Getting into the Hobby

Hey there Mik,
Personally, I would much rather electric. Like xv-townboy said, they are user friendly and fast. Also I am a huge fan of Traxxas. Especially since they started adding in the battery and charger, Truly a Ready-To-Run. The Electric Slash comes with everything you need, and has a brushless motor system (and I believe is just as fast, if not faster than its nitro counterpart) price should be between $425 - $550 each. If it is at all possible, i would suggest you and your son go in and test drive as many trucks as you can.
I am personally getting the Traxxas Stampede vxl BL RTR, 65+Mph, comes with everything needed, and comes in at $380.
Goodluck Choosing!
