Next step was to glue and shape some small balsa blocks to be able to install the windshield.

Re: Sig Citabria (Build Log)

Same idea as the Sig Cub, nice build so far. What covering are you using Alain?

Re: Sig Citabria (Build Log)

I'm using Solartex for covering. It's by far the best I ever used.

Re: Sig Citabria (Build Log)

Thanks Rod

Done a little more work this weekend. I started to make the wing struts which are made from wood stick that are sanded to shape. A good way to do this is by drawing lines for reference to ensure that the strut stays straight.

Re: Sig Citabria (Build Log)

Alain,

Nice build thread.

I also have the Sig Citabria in my build queue .... with the wing built at least 30 years ago, with a single aileron servo and bellcranks as was the construction approach back then.

When I get back to it I intend to make an second wing, using a semi symmetrical airfoil for better acrobatics, servos on each aileron and a simpler construction (top and bottom spars).

Consider, before you close up the fuselage, installing a couple of hardpoints in the bottom rear of the cabin, for possible addition of rise off water capability.

Thanks Mervin for the reminder about the possible front end weakness of the fuselage.

Re: Sig Citabria (Build Log)

Thanks Michael, I like the idea of a second wing with a more aerobatic airfoil. I considered adding some hard point for floats but I don't think I will ever build float for it and I already have a CL-415 if I want to go fly off water that I haven't maiden yet...

I am slowly making some progress. The plane is now all covered except for the ailerons. I REALLY like Solartex as it is so much easier to work with than Monokote. And the fabric texture looks so more realistic on a plane like the Citabria.

Re: Sig Citabria (Build Log)

Some more work was done on the Citabria. I am now done with the covering and needed to finish the struts before going to the painting boot...
