Flat head screws!

My Beef for the day is all the little flathead screws that come with the hardwear in kits. I cant seem to be able to screw them little buggers in without the flat screwdriver slipping off and gouging the balsa wood.

The kit I am presently workin on is an old red box top flite kit, do the newer kits have phillips or hex head screws?

Re: Flat head screws!

Barring finding better screws, find a piece of brass tubing whose inside diameter is just slightly bigger than the screw head and screwdriver shank, cut it to the length of the screwdriver shank, and then slip the screw and screwdriver through the tube. Hold the tube against the surface where the screw is going to be driven. Drive it home!

Hope this helps.. should get me a free subscription to M.A.N.

Re: Flat head screws!

It would be nice if they would start supplying socket head screws instead of the straight head ones. I just hate using them.

I use the socket servo screws to replace landing gear strap screws.
I purchased them from Minibolt.

I am still looking for screws to replace the plastic control horn screws. Minibolt has quite assortment of different types of socket screws maybe he has what you are looking for.

If you want awesome, you have to scratch build it!

Re: Flat head screws!

All my flat head screws that I get in kits go in a drawer somewhere and I replace 'em with socket head ones.
Micro Fasteners is a great source, just got an order the other day.
