Fedex shipping

JFYI, I had a turbine shipped from California to here in Ontario via Fedex, and I was expecting a hefty "brokerage" fee on top of the taxes.

To my surprise, looking over the charges - there was a $10 handling fee/brokerage, and the actual tax (5% gst and 8% pst) only, with nothing else.

Maybe a change is happening? Maybe UPS will drop their ridiculous brokerage fees as well?

Re: Fedex shipping

I've always had better luck with Fed/Ex. Actually, any carrier other than UPS. I won't even order from places that insist on using UPS.

Randy, due to the value of the engine - they made me pay all charges up front on my credit card (before it was released from customs).

I asked on the phone, if there will be a bill later on, and they said no - this is it. ALso, I was mailed a bill I received a few days later, with the charges as I said and it was marked paid in full.

Re: Fedex shipping

Andrew, was the Fedex shipment by express (1 day) service?

Generally, both UPS and Fedex include the brokerage charge with 1 or 2 day service but for Ground service they charge you the brokerage seperately.

I expect te $10 fee was for an out of "of or area" charge.

Re: Fedex shipping

Just an update...

Nothing else came in the mail in terms of charges.

I guess they did just charge me the $10 brokerage fee, and actual taxes.

Re: Fedex shipping

I've heard that if you utilize next day air with Fedex there are no brokerage fees. Fedex apparently absorbs the fees

Re: Fedex shipping

I'll just chime in: A sample of UPS Express brokerage fee.

Bought stuff from AMainhobbies just last March 29 (AM) and they shipped my stuff in the PM. I opted for the UPS Express and sure enough, I had the parcel in my doorstep at around 10:30am.

How much did I pay? This is how it was laid out in the receipt copy:

GST: 32.49 Brokerage Fee: 9.00 Brok. GST: 0.45 Total Value for Duty: 249.73 COD: 41.94

Thats it: Just $41.94 all in.

If you use USPS then Canada Post, they have $5 Handling/Brokerage fee aside from the Taxes, That is if you gets dinged in your parcel.

So, don't be afraid to use UPS or FedEx AS LONG AS IT IS AIR FREIGHT type of shipping. NEVER use UPS Standard or any ground shipping method. That is where you get raped in brokerage fee.

The good thing with UPS, I get it overnight! No more waiting. Waiting sucks. This is my prefered method lately in all of my orders with AMainhobbies.
