Easystar with Sony Webbie

Here is my video of my Multiplex Easystar. I have tried my Sony Webbie on my Stryker and now on my Easystar. I have made a very quick but extremely light foam mount adding only 5.5 oz to the Easy including the camera. Had to mount the battery on top to keep the original cg. It flies great and even in the wind the wings stay mostly level. Today the wind was 10 to 15mph on the ground but up top it was 20 to 25mph. I could hover into the wind with less then 1/2 throttle. Had a lot of fun. This video is unedited just shortened a little.

I just re-weight the camera and mount, the camera is 3.6oz ( 113g) and foam mount is .66oz ( 19g ) with straps so total is only 4.3oz added to the plane, not bad. I do not like useless weight added to a plane, it affects the flying characteristics, mostly the speed.

Re: Easystar with Sony Webbie

The Webbie came out last year, I think it is now discontinued and replaced with Sony Bloggie, same camera with minor improvements. This one is currently on sale at Black's. Model MSH-PM1. Great thing is the tilting lens and HD. It can do 720 and 1080 and is 3.6 oz.

Re: Easystar with Sony Webbie

Looks good Dan....the foam did a great job of taking up the vibration from the motor.
Gotta love the Easystar!

Re: Easystar with Sony Webbie

Yes, the foam mount isolated the vibration, that is why I stay away from solid mounts like wood or aluminum, way too much vibration transfer from the frame.
Also balancing the prop really helps, those little props can be seriously out of balance.

Re: Easystar with Sony Webbie

Dan

Looks good. How do you like the EZ star?

You can't beat this camera for the price but there a few issues that needs to be tweaked; like the video in full light is always overexposed. Editing and contrast / color works. I was going to try a polarized filter on it too.

One suggestion; try elastic on the camera less vibration.

The last video I shot with my Webbie was in the wind to and from the ground it looks like it was all over the place, even with the gyros install on the pitch and roll flight controls. But the second defence gyros on the camera made the made the video remarkably stable.

Cheers Jerry

Re: Easystar with Sony Webbie

Love the easystar, this one is a used one I picked up and rebuilt. Once at altitude it flies itself. Just have to steer. At less then half throttle it keeps altitude. With less wind, it would be easy to maintain direction.
Yes, gyro on the lens would be good, I think better then ailerons, on this plane. Yes I will try the elastic, Camera is held with Velcro, the strap was just safety.

It is definitely over exposed, I wonder if UV filter would be enough. My guess is the purpose of the camera was indoor video so they compensated for lower light. Colors are ok indoors. How about that polarizing filter? I put one from my other cameras in front of the lens, it look good, I may stop at Henry's tomorrow and see what they have. Double sided tape should hold it to the front if light enough. Weather sucks again so I will play a little over the weekend.
