Nice Bee Bob!
Are the stabs held on by nylon screws, And what are the dotty things embeded in the stripes, They kinda look like LED light strips.
Thats one killer Bee

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Yes, the winglets are attached with nylon bolts, will probably supplement it with some tape too. Want to try out a couple of different shapes & sizes.

Led strips? Yes... There are 294 lights on 16 feet of strips. Saw a wing done on youtube with these and thought it would be cool to do. Went to the trouble of embedding the strips into the airfoil profile, lots of work to do but results seem worth it. Must watch the current draw with all those lights, but I think I have worked out a solution for this.

We need some good west winds around here over the next couple of months. Flying wings are mucho fun when the lift is good.

Bob.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Seen that video before, Yours is going to look great in the sky all lit up,NICE JOB. I would be nervous about flying a tech filled beauty like that off the ridge.

Took my ka8 out to the park and did a few test throws, I will be taking it out soon when the conditions are favorable for a high start launch. She looks like a real floater and should fly really good from what i can tell.

Hooked my Alula up to a high start and launched it on Thursday a few times, caught a couple of thermals, but it gets small pretty fast up high. Twice on launch it veered to the right in a fast arc ane nosed into the ground. Must have the hook taped on too far back of the cg. Broke the wing and snapped the head off . Repairs going on now using foaming gorilla glue ,foam putty filler, light fiberglass and PA. She will be ready to go in a few days. Got about 60 hours out of this bird, can't replace it yet.

My Thunder Tiger Victoria arrived Friday, looks good, They ordered one in for stock at Hobby Wholesale . So one is sitting there for anyone who would like one.

Added an xtra picture from back in April when the Alula was brand new.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Me too. Took the head off my Alula while throwing it around the park a few weeks ago. I can't get mine dialed into a consistent glide condition, one throw and it goes nice, the next it is all over the place. Servos seem to centre fine.
I fixed mine with goop, definitely heavier now. Oh well, some say the more beat up they get, the better they fly.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

I don't really think the alula is all that great of a thermal ship even for dlg/sal launching. After all how many flying wings do you see at a thermal contest. Just does not possess the qualities of even a fairly serious thermal machine. For double the price the parkzone radian will give you a glider right out of the box that wins contests and is a real threat to the other competitors flying aircraft costing far more.

On a side note: I would love to see a video of someone with a radian Pro flyin off of a ridge doing aerobatics. Just to see how it performs.

Pedigree of the Alula was born on the slope. It's great for light wind aerobatics and it is easily repaired. I beleiieve that scope of the alulas capabilities has been somewhat overstretched into the thermal area to increase the saleability of such a small glider in the hobbyist market. And it has been successfull at doing just that.
Anyways I am done the repairs. Added my carbon fiber spine to the neck area, gorilla glued the breaks, Filled dints with foam putty, Added 4 layers of light glass on the head and neck, one layer on the LE and tips, PA'd ready to go
