A beautifull spot I first saw from the Edmonton Golf and Country club across the river. A couple of houses collapsed into the valley at this spot. Faces west.

Actually I have no idea how heavy the funjet was, I do not own that one one anymore, my friend thought it was so beautiful he had to have it, I like them shiny too. I just remember holding 2 of them side by side , one with no finish, and that one seemed much lighter. Since then, I have just misted the colour on a foamy with spay paint. But I still love the look of nice shiny quality paint job.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

ddruck Must have been a nice plane. I always seem to go overboard with the paint and stuff and i really should not.

A very nice place to fly hlg/dlg gliders in Edmonton is at Callingwood park. Loads of nice flat soccer field.

Exclamation Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Edmonton, Alberta bylaw requiring permit
2202 section 15- d&g

ACTIVITIES REQUIRING A PERMIT 1 While on Parkland no person shall:
(a) leave or place any sign;
(b) spread or deposit cremated remains;
(c) organize or participate in an outdoor gathering of more than 50 people;
(d) operate a model aircraft, rocket or other power assisted flying model;
(e) sell, display or distribute any goods or services;
(f) conduct any business or commercial venture;
(g) tether, launch or land a hot air balloon, hang-glider, ultra-light aircraft or other similar airborne craft; or
(h) possess or set off any firecracker, fireworks or explosive material of any kind;
unless a permit has been issued by the City specifying the activity may take place on Parkland.

As a note I had called the parks office inquiring about a permit for a small un powered glider. They talked with a park ranger and I was told not to worry. Still I keep my eyes open for the man and check my flying area for any potential problems ie.
bike and walking paths,cars,houses,animals, people etc.
Fly Safety,and with Respect and you should not attract any problems.
If someone manages to get a permit for this kind of activity in their municipality please post details.
Thanks D

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Things were perfect for slope flying at the spot in post 41. Winds were from the west at over 30 km/h. Right on! you are thinking right, well...5 seconds after I let go of my fling slope glider and as the model shot out over the gorge gaining equal amounts of speed and altitude my first though were OH MY GOD What have i done. It was crazy like fermin, and i was standing there burning my 70 dollar 2 servo fling glider back and forth wondering how i was going to get it to slow down enough to land, No flaps or spoilers on this puppy. Anyhow the trick was to start doing practice passes(did 5)till i was sure swinging it back into the wind near the landing area was going to work, Not to mention making sure i was going to miss the old chunk of foundation sticking out of the south end of the runway. Landed the plane with narry a problem eventually , but I had my doubts when I was in the air. Did I mention that the lift was craaazy.

I thought the place you mentioned was a closed community? Not gated, but local traffic only.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Thought you all would like this:

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941
