Facing west. near the guardrail. Farmland on far side generates great thermals. Landing is a challenge.

(c) organize or participate in an outdoor gathering of more than 50 people;
(d) operate a model aircraft, rocket or other power assisted flying model;
(e) sell, display or distribute any goods or services;
(f) conduct any business or commercial venture;
(g) tether, launch or land a hot air balloon, hang-glider, ultra-light aircraft or other similar airborne craft; or
(h) possess or set off any firecracker, fireworks or explosive material of any kind;
unless a permit has been issued by the City specifying the activity may take place on Parkland.

As a note I had called the parks office inquiring about a permit for a small un powered glider. They talked with a park ranger and I was told not to worry. Still I keep my eyes open for the man and check my flying area for any potential problems ie.
bike and walking paths,cars,houses,animals, people etc.
Fly Safety,and with Respect and you should not attract any problems.
If someone manages to get a permit for this kind of activity in their municipality please post details.
Thanks D
D...sorry I haven't been following the thread too closely..are you friggin serious that you require a permit to fly a model plane in Edmonchuk (you'll forgive the Calgary colloquialism I hope) that's crazy.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Hi Mark.
Don't worry we call it Edmonchuck too
The bylaw states that you must get a permit, But I have not had any trouble so far with my small slope and thermal gliders here. I called and had contact with the park rangers office about getting a permit and basically was told not to bother. I think they are more worried about self propelled models. The fine for breaking this bylaw is 100 dollars. A fine I would think would be issued only to stop any foolhardy activity that was obviously putting people or property at risk.
I think even a small powered park flyer infraction would be overlooked as long as the person was being responsible about it.
Hope your flying season was great!

Strathcona Science Park is that a club free zone for flyers?

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Hi SNO54. The SRCFA club maintains a power flier field at the park, But people can slope soar on the lower bench near the walking path. Maac membership is mentioned on the sign posted at the slope.

Plus others around there, favor S,SW winds easy access by vehicle, and a good 100ft cliff nice prairie grass on top, and below for some!

Thanks Dale Hunter
When you say easy access by vehicle, are you saying that it's okay to drive off road to the top of the hill?
