Guys, just so you understand - the majority of the areas that I visit in the Neutrals are foot access - that's why I asked for clarification. A good part of the grass is native and it takes a long time to recover if it's disturbed. Some landowners aren't too particular and others are. There's one awesome spot for sloping that the landowner is VERY particular about access being foot only. I would sure hate to see us lose access over a simple mis-communication.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

I dont see many Calgary oriented postings here, so here's my 2 bits worth
When I lived in Calgary, I'd pack up my models and head east to the
village of Standard.
Keep going north from Standard on rt 840, theres a long ridge facing south which is good,
then keep going to the intersection of 564 and turn left.
Take the 2nd right into a farm.
Theres a real nice west slope, the farmer used to let hang gliders fly there,
I dont know who lives there now.

The whole area around north has a variety of slopes where I could always fly.

I kind of miss that, but have sand dunes and coastal cliffs now on PEI

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

I annually visit a good friend of mine in Tudor, south of Rockyford. We will scoot out this slope. There are great glacial slopes all around the area. Thermal, and Aero towing are what we usually do next to his property.
I have seen a 130Mph sloper on one of the local slopes S.E. of his place.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Hi Dale Hunter,

I tried to attach a map but it was too big
If you search Standard in Mapquest, you'll see the turn-off north from 564.
If you go east on 564, there are more hills,
also east of Rosebud and Redland along the river, good north slopes

Hi DHansen, I know it's been a while since this last post, but, can you provide more specific location on this bench/site? Perhaps a more zoomed in map? Is the flying field near this bench/soar site?

Thanks so much for your help.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Hi Bob. The slope hill is along the paved pedestrian/bike path along the west side of the park. There is a bench there to sit on. Thats the spot. I will work on a better map.

Re: Alberta Slope Patrol guide

Enter the Science Park from 17th street and bear to the left after crossing the tracks. Follow the road south, it will turn from paved to gravel. You will come to a parking lot on the right just before the locked SRCFA gate entrance, go into and park in this lot. Load up your plane(s) & radio and take the footpath on the right side of the parking lot. The footpath will lead downhill to a paved path. Look to your right, you will see a bench approx. 100 yds down. Go there, set up and fly. Hope to see you there one of these days.
Bob.
