Re: Magnetic attraction to trees

AHA! Proves my point! See, they're even enlisting their dead against us.

Since our old sight banned nitro we've been flying at a new field. My first three times there I hit trees along the edge of the gravel road. My friend has hit them twice, (pssst. I think it was the same one every time, it just moved).

I hate to laugh, but I can only imagine the look on the guys face(blue shirt)... His pose says it all : D

Thanks Max, I appreciate the backup! This happened in Wiarton Ontario, you know, the home of Wiarton Willie, Canada's famous albino groundhog! My friend had flown the plane for 5 flights the day before and had overlooked giving the batteries an overnight charge.

This is another strange happening affecting RC aircraft! No matter how drained the batteries are, there's always enough power left to be able to start the plane, taxi out, take off and climb 2 or 300' before they fail completely! Throw in the mysterious magnetic trees/stumps and you're totally screwed!

Cougar, I have to thank you my friend! That is awesome...Quote: "AHA! Proves my point! See, they're even enlisting their dead against us." Seriously, I laughed to the point of tears. Too funny!

Barnroof, I have to thank you my friend for this thread. I just love this type of subject. Wish we had more like it. What a great topic!

Re: Magnetic attraction to trees

There is another explaination......is it not a magnetic force, it is a phenomena that dates back to millions of years ago. This is natures' own way of returning to it's natural habitat when opportunities of close encounter arise. Although not well understood, sightings of balsa clinging to the fingers of fellow species prove this theory true.

Re: Magnetic attraction to trees

I fly faster planes that seem to make it through the branches so you can gather the pieces up off the ground. Much easier than climbing trees. Tex.

Re: Magnetic attraction to trees

Great comments guy's!

For those who are interested, the old Telemaster was successfully rescued with the 28 ft ladder, a 6 foot man and a 12 ft stick with a nail and a shoe lace at the end ( Nike ) I carefully looped the prop , twisted the shoe lace loop, then made the extraction. My assistant received the plane unhurt.
After a complete tank overhaul the Telemaster was tested on Monday and back to training on Tuesday. She is a tough old bird!

Re: Magnetic attraction to trees

Glad it came down ok

One fellow at our field had a great idea, we need to cross polonate trees with dandylions so that when they hear a motor coming they duck!

Re: Magnetic attraction to trees

Lol. My HZ Super Cub ended up in a big old spruce two falls ago, about 25 feet up. Good thing I was a good climber as a kid! My climbing skills and one of my floor varnishing mop polls got it down. It had a few spruce needles jammed in it from the branch that skewered it, but it flew shortly afterward.

Edit: This disproves the theory that trees are trying to bring the balsa back to nature and proves that trees are indeed magnetic. The HZ Super Cub is a foamy and it still grabbed it. Unless, of course, the tree was fooled into thinking it was a balsa model from all its previous experiences with planes, and grabbed it through instinct. That's probably it!

My Twist 3D has 3 evergreens and a conifer painted on the side. True.
