Cool Drag?

I have been flying an old Seamaster 40 for a couple of years now, I have upped the power to an ASP 52 and worked on it to clean it up a bit. – and it was …OK…

That means it flew, but not well, it lacked handling and any ‘Style’ – BUT! That was at the club field with the landing gear installed.

Saturday I attended a ‘Float Fly’ (a local rarity) and lacking any other water borne AC I launched my Seamaster. What a difference without the added drag of the Landing Gear!

Suddenly this plane was looping and twisting with the best of them! I have gained a whole new respect for this AC!

It just goes to show that the legends about Aerodynamics and Drag are TRUE!

Now, if I can just figure out how to launch it from a grass field with out the Landing gear… perhaps a skate that drops off… hmmm I have lots of spare wheels…
Life is either a daring adventure...
...or nothing.

Re: Drag?

If you are on a grass field, try flying it without any gear. My Sig Sealane will take off from a grass field on it's belly. It is powered with an OS FS52 running an 11 x 6 prop. Make sure you land with a proper flair and as slow as you can.
