I used Futaba for cars, back in the day, then, went to Spektrum for aircraft and cars/trucks, and now, presently, using JR for aircraft and spektrum/Nomadio for cars/trucks.

Re: OK OK POLL not Pole time

I just received the August issue of Model Airplane News and they announced that they have chosen the Hitec Aurora 9 as the 2010 radio of the year.

Myself, I am a JR guy.
It's okay Pluto, I'm not a Planet either.

I like to look at it this way , ............................. What Hitec has done for ALL of us , is bring the prices DOWN .

I think we are going to see some GOOD competition , in the near future .

Tell me ,......................Where can you get a 9 channel radio / telemetry / touch screen / receivers 9ch-$99 , and it,s affordable to everyone , and so far there track record is good .

Like I said , what Hitec has done , is good for everyone .

I don,t know if Hitec is a good radio , I,m not experienced enough , the equivalent to replace my system was $1500 , by JR and Futaba , I spent $850 . and I,ve had absolutely NO Problems .

I think they were the second mouse to get the cheese .

Re: OK OK POLL not Pole time

I used to run Futaba FASST when I was racing cars but then I switched to Spektrum for my planes because the DX7 was a pretty good deal at the time. I like both but I think my next will be a JR 9303, or whatever the equivalent is when I get the funds to move up.

Both of those major brands have been great for me and, honestly, would fly either one.

Re: OK OK POLL not Pole time

I am somewhat surprised to see so much FUTABA. Seeing that everything on sale here seems to come with DSM technology!!! Does this mean that when you go FUTABA you never look back or get rid of it
Also that most seem to run multiple brands.

The poll sits at about 96 entries!!! This to me appears low, I would have thought that more would want to be part of this tiny survey. I guess I should have put some sort of prize for the participants.

So come on it does not hurt

PS. Tyler P, I think you the one selling the 3D Hobby Shop Extra 300 SHP 47" - electric 3s!!! How is that for a first plane? I am looking around and just starting to get the taste of wanting to try planes. But the small trainers are not appealing to me. Especially if they fly like the small helis I started out with and hated and almost left the hobby!!!

Re: OK OK POLL not Pole time

Hi juniorlab,

I just voted...wait for it !...for Futaba.

I enjoy the flawless reliability (knock on balsa !) I have had over the years.

I have plenty of JR flying friends. They seem to like 'selling' JR.

Over countless hours of enjoying flying Maac scale combat (which is Brutal on Rx's after midairs, dirtnaps and lawndarts), I can honestly say BOTH, JR and Futaba are equally good/great.

I don't know much about 2.4 gig and other brands. Yet.

Stay Calm,
Be Brave,
Wait for the Signs...

Take care,
Have fun,

Re: OK OK POLL not Pole time

For years, most of my radio gear has been Hitec. I have now started into electric flight and am loving it. I picked up a Blade 400 heli in a trade deal and it came with a Spektrum DX6i and I really like this radio. It's not anything like the big Futaba's or JR's but it has and does everything to suit my needs.

I still have a Hitec Optic 6 and a half dozen Rx's for it that I use in my SPADS but I'm using the DX6i for all my electrics mostly due to the good selection of smaller Rx's that can be picked up used for reasonable prices.

Even my IMAC plane for this year, a Funtana 125 is electric and I'm sure it will hold its own against the mostly much larger IMAC crowd. My main focus is to just get out there and do it, and have fun.

IF I ever decide to buy another new radio, it will be the Hitec Aurora 9. For me personally, ya just can't beat the quality Hitec offers at such an affordable price. I'm always amazed at the die hard Futaba crowd....."I only buy the best, Futaba radios, but I do use all Hitec servos in my planes!" I guess the old addage is right..."IF ya can't beat em, join em!
