My supplier & I are looking to advertise in the most popular RC magazines for Canadians. Can you provide us which ones you like to read?? As soon as we have some names we'll put up a poll.

Thanks in advance for your posts!

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

Chris

of course, MAAC Mag gets to all Canadian modellers,
I get Fly R/C, but lately it seems to be moving to replace the old RC Modeler
Andrew Coholic is a contributor to Fly R/C, so there's some Northern Ontario flavour

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

I get both FLY RC and Model airplane news, both great mags. I think the MAAC mag is way to lame . I also read backyard flyer and rc heli.

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

From personal experience, if you are targeting the Canadian modeler, the MAAC mag is the way to go. Unfortunately taking into consideration that the membership numbers are dropping (their words, not mine) the advertising rates are quite high in my opinion. There are a lot of RC guys in Canada that are not MAAC members and sourcing advertising that will target them is more difficult. I doubt that advertising in the US mags would accomplish this. I'm not stumping for Jason here (well maybe I am) but spending some of your advertising budget here on RCC may be an option to reach those that do not get the MAAC mag. Personallly I don't buy any Rc mags but I do page through the MAAC mag when it arrives.
Bottom line, when I was in business I don't think I would have survived in the mailroder business without my 2 - 4 page MAAC mag ads....Ron

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

I read RCM&E

They now have a North American version. Different name (RC Model Aeroplane) but the same content so that might be an option.

I had every issue of FLYRC until last Jan, then stopped. MAN same thing. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it's easy to get lost in the ads in those mags.

And of course I go through the MAAC mag.

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

Thanks for the input guys. Not specifically looking for a Canadian magazine, I did advertise in the MAAC magazine but economics have caused me to stop. My supplier wants to target both countries and need to know which is the more popular one for Canadians.

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

For years I subscribed to RC Modeler Magazine and Model Airplane News. I still literally have boxes of old mags stored in my basement.

I no longer subscribe to any mags other than the MAAC of course as I just simply got tired of paying $10 for about 75% of the content being advertizing!

I still pick up the odd mag at Chapters if any of the articles are of interest to me and that is usually Fly RC for the engine reviews and occasionally a MAN. One of the main reasons I even subscribed to RCM for so long was the fact that I enjoyed Clarence Lee's engine reviews. Now it is our friend Andrew doing a great job in Fly RC.

Re: Whats your favourite RC Mag???

Thanks for the support guys.

In all honesty, I wouldnt write for Fly RC if I didnt respect and believe what the other contributors have to say. Some of them (Kevin Siemonsen) are very knowledgeable - and Kevin is Canadian as well, from Kingston.

A lot of good people at Fly RC. Remember, membership doesnt pay the bills, advertising does. So yes, there are pages of ads. But if you read, and I mean REALLY read each article in the magazine (not just skim) there is a lot of great content each month.

I am a pretty well rounded and knowledgeable modeler I think, and I still manage to learn something each issue I read. So, thats why I say its a good magazine with some great content.

I still buy the odd MAN - sad to say over the years they have lost some of their better staff IMO. And I buy some of the imports that Nuker spoke of... when I am at a Chapters in the city.

All in all, there are no mags that will please everyone. MAN as far as I know still has the most numbers printed per month, with Fly RC a close second.

All I can say is I try and do an honest review on engines and airframes. And I am branching out - will have a heli in there soon, and in the fall a full review on a jet and turbine! Plus the usual round of engines when I get time...
