There is a good discussion on this issue at RC Groups ..

I doubt that anyone can give a simple answer.
Effective radiated power is not linear with distance ..
see page 2 from below ..

There are just too many variables .. I have used both Spektrum and FASST systems and both are fine if the range check is OK .. .. At least with a spektrum system you can use a flight log to check under actual flying conditions ..

I wish I knew, but I get about 45-50 steps ( 150ft ) with mine in front of the house and fly out of sight, almost, with my AV EasyStar with all different receivers including the Park flier types. Don't know the distance but it is so small I can hardly tell what it is doing.
I guess there are so many variables you have to to do your own testing to see.
