Thrust to weight has very little bearing on how it's going to fly overall. What you want is eflux.

I suggest a trip to rc groups - all the edf guys hang out there and there is a lot of experiance there. Looks similar to the Jet hanger plane. One guy (corsair nut) did a jet hanger F-86 with a 90mm and it goes like a rocket.

I highly suggest you take a trip over there.

The classic ratio of 50% thrust to weight (measured by the lair's, sorry fisher's, scale if good enough.

If you can get to this limit, you can take off from short grass or pavement.

If you're getting better than this, especially approaching 1:1, then you're laughing.

The 50% ratio comes from the days when this plane was flying with the power combinations available then.

Once in the air, static thrust (how much air can be sucked into the planes without stalling the fan blades) dimishes in importance while dynamic (how much air can be pushed out the back end without burning the motor from exceeding maximum rpms) becomes the limiting factor.

Early fan units (pre-Dynamax) had high-pitch fans that were designed to maximize static thrust (get the plane moving on the ground). Modern designs favour dynamic thrust with a less pitchy blade configuration.

Well, been playin over on rcgroups and asking questions, and gettin sum answers. Looks like this jet is similar in design and size as the JHH f 86. But the JHH one, is hittin 12 pounds fully loaded. Mine doesn't weigh near this much, nor should it. Mine weighs around 2 1/2 pounds the way you see it in the pics.

Also gettin some ideas on fan units, and looks like the midi fan is the most popular, in a 90 mm size, and its pushing the 12 pound JHH kit around pretty nice.
happy flying

If you are looking at a Turbax conversion , Scorpion has a nice conversion that will give you 13 lbs of thrust, check it out here. http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/pro...4d45b525625724

What is the size of the thrust tube exit and the smallest diameter of the inlet. On the inlet you can add a cheater hole if you need too but the exit of the thrust tube can't be any smaller then 80% of the FSA. This will determine the fan size and whether or not you need to make new tubes.
