As long as we're asking some 'interesting' questions, let's throw another variable into the equation. Manuals on glow planes I have built have stressed checking the CG with an empty fuel tank. Why does it matter?

Re: Understanding C of G!

When setting up the C.G with an empty tank the worst case scenario on an empty tank will be where you have set it, depending on the size of the fuel tank letís say 12 oz, when you take off with a full tank and you have set the C.G. in that scenario, when the tank empties the C.G (or balance point) will be more rearward making for an unstable airplane because now the 12oz of ballast (fuel ) has been used up thatís why a lot of giant scale pilots try to put the gas tank on the wing tube to minimize that effect.

Try putting your plane on a stand setting up the C.G in the middle of the range with the equivalent weight on top of the tank then when the model is balanced take away the weight and the tail will instantly fall, hope this helps, Colin.
When I grow up I want to be a pilot!!
