Hi Nathan:
I was flying one day and my transmitter (Futaba 8UAPS) started beeping ---- one beep roughly every 30 seconds. The plane was flying without problems or glitches. Thinking it was just the timer sounding off every minute (which I don't remember it doing before) it didn't seem right ------ 30 seconds is a short 1 minute I thought at the time. When I looked at my display, the horizontal bar below the "RF" label, was BLINKING ----- NOT GOOD!!!! This means that the RF signal was either not transmitting or having a problem. I landed right away and after removing the the RF Module (72 MHZ synthesized freq. module), I noticed that the pins on the circuit board, inside the transmitter, were abnormally easy to move. These are the pins that make contact with the RF Module when it's plugged in.
I later removed the transmitter's back cover and had to re-solder all of the pins onto the board. From removing and re-installing the module, these pins can be stressed enough to loosen the solder joints. I checked my 3 other radios and found one with weak solder joints on the board. This can probably happen to any module based Tx if the modules are installed/removed a lot of times. Always try to carefully insert/remove the module straight in/out. Take a look at these pins once you pull out the RF Module. I was very lucky I didn't lose the plane due to signal loss/interruption.

Re: Rx fails range test

Nathan got the jr8103 off of me last summer. I bought it pretty much brand new years ago as a backup to my 10x, but never used it. It came with a 23 module, but i gave nathan a 28 module and several receivers i was flying without issue. I t hink something was up with the 28 module, so i just gave him the 23 module i know was fine, and some 23 crystals to recheck the receivers. Having flwn the 28 module a lot in doors, with the antenna not fully extended, we think the rf portion might have overheted and gotten damaged.

It is just odd that a working transmitter and several known working receivers would all start failing together..?

Hopefully the new module will solve these issues.
