Re: Lancaster in Calgary

Our home here in Stoney Creek Ontario is just off of one of the Mount Hope Airport's approach runways, so we get to see the Lancaster fly over quite often on its way home to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum .

No matter how may times it may fly over, I run outdoors like a little kid to see it. You can hear those engines from a long way off and there is no doubt that it is the Lanc by the distinct sound of the 4 Merlin RR engines.

You can even book a flight in the Lancaster if you know that you're planning on being in the Hamilton area two years from now. That's because that's how far ahead they are booked and for a mere $2500 a seat, you can indeed take a 30 minute flight in a genuine Lancaster bomber.

Now wouldn't that be the ultimate ride of a lifetime?

Re: Lancaster in Calgary

Gary, I love your comment about going outside to see/hear a plane fly overhead. Flight has been around for over a hundred years in this country and it still captures the imagination of those of us smitten. I simply cannot NOT look up every time I hear something fly over us. We are on the flightpath for flights coming from Toronto to WPG and often have planes overhead.

I flew back from TO yesterday. As luck would have it, a good friend was in the First Officer's seat and I was able to tour the cockpit prior to takeoff. Very cool.

Re: Lancaster in Calgary

Just saw the Lancaster fly past my office about 45 min ago, they are taking people for rides in it today. Wish I had been outside to hear it, the sound of the merlins was somewhat muted indoors.

Re: Lancaster in Calgary

What an experience. May it still be flying in another 100 years -treasures like this are fast disappearing.

One thought did cross my mind though ---wouldn't it be really cool with electric outrunners --Just fooling.

Re: Lancaster in Calgary

It is supposed to be at Abbottsford next weekend. I think the Corsair is coming here to Comox on Monday for a few days before going to Abbottsford.
