Lipo Rx battery advice...

It was suggested that I try replacing my 4.8v NiMh Rx batteries with Lipo. Any suggestions or tips? Where is a good place to order, and which batteries? I checked HK but couldn't really find them (their catalogue is huge)...

Re: Lipo Rx battery advice...

There is an RX lipo here....

but you may need to run a regulater like this with it as it is 7.4volts.

May I suggest a Life or A123 type of Rx battery...6.6volts and no regulater needed

The only drawback to either is that you need a charger capeable of charging them... the Accucell 6 does both and works great... cheap too.

You can fly Hitec or use the other "low tech" stuff!!

Re: Lipo Rx battery advice...

So I took the plunge. I bought a Castle Creations BEC, I think it was $25.00. I already had several 900 mah batteries, 1 two cell, and 1 three cell. Since the BEC regulates to 5.1 volts anyways, I went with the 2 cell 900 mah battery. Its lighter, and I didn't need the extra weight to balance the plane. I am powering 5 regular futabas on a Great Planes Revolver, and so far so good.

My only concerns are, I don't have any way of checking the remaining capacity, so I am flying, and charging now, to see how much is left. Also, charging in the plane, since the battery is under the engine cowl.

My main reason for using the lipo, is more constant voltage to the servos.

With the Castle Creations BEC, its adjustable, you just need the USB link they sell, but you can output to a maximum of 9 volts.

I think its worth the effort to do it, more, constant power to the servos.

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
