Re: Ballistic Chutes Work

A few years ago I was looking for an ultralight.
There were quite a few "beaver's" for sale, but when I looked up their safety record, I was aghast. There were many fatalities due to structural failures. (I have made several skydives from a friends ultralight beaver...Good thing I was the one wearing a parachute...LOL). Other ultralights also had the same saftey records. I am not bashing ultralights, they are quite safe for the most part but every once-in-a-while they have a catastrophic failure due to a fatigued part or improperly assembled parts. The scary part is one report I read where a structural cable let go from the eye, and this was set in the factory. the owner never would have caught it because it was INSIDE the covered wing with no inspection port. That crash caused 2 fatals

When I was looking to buy, my pre-requisite was it had to have a BRS.

They are worth every penny, even if they never get used!

Better believe it. I used you have a BRS chute on my hangglider.
Surprised it is not a standard safety feature on all light aircraft.

Re: Ballistic Chutes Work

One of the guys at the club could have definitely used a chute last night. Straight down and an hour later they were still looking for the remains....
