So sorry to hear about this...if there's anything I can do to help let me know. I have a bunch of spare parts and different general supplies lying around, if you need something I'd be happy to send it to you.

Re: Garage fire!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the fire.
I will be taking lots of pics of everything, not just my RC stuff, and putting the memory card in my safety deposit box, along with a detailed list of contents and serial/model numbers.

You can fly Hitec or use the other "low tech" stuff!!

Re: Garage fire!!!!!!

I also take photo's as Taz suggested, but I would also suggest you keep a list of all the goodies. Sometimes it is hard to see stuff in the background of a picture (IE when I take a photo of my workshop) there are lots of stuff on the shelf. Looking at the photo a year from now, you may forget what was in the boxes on the shelf.. (or what was INSIDE the plane)

Re: Garage fire!!!!!!

Hey Ted, its been awhile since I've spoken to you my friend. I am so sorry it has to be under this circumstance! I am happy to hear that you are safe and not injured! Sorry to hear that your lost everything modelwise. I know that materials can be replaced, but things will just never be quite the same!

I know it must be difficult for you, but thank you for sharing your experience. If you can help even one person to prevent such things from happening or can help them recover their losses, then you've done a very good thing! I'm sure this will be an eye opener for many modelers here on RCC!

Ted, I say this in all sincerity my friend. If I can help you with anything, be it materials or personal help, just let me know. As has been said by others, I will do whatever I can to help you! All the best with your claim, and please keep us updated if you can.

Re: Garage fire!!!!!!

My suggestion is that you also keep a diary or similar log of all of your purchases. Of course, you also need to record when you use materials.

Alternate would be to do an inventory of what you do have along with the photos, and the inventory includes the purchase price.

Personal experience: I had my apartment storage locker cleaned out and lost a few airplanes and piles of materials. The good news is that I had Frank Anderson as a mentor and he had a chat with the insurance company after we'd brain-storemed on everything that I could have had in that locker.
