managed to get 5 more flights in this weekend. I will mention again that Im new to gassers. I love how easy this motor starts and with each flight It is sputtering less and the power is noticbley increasing. On the weekend I met two others that have the same engine. One in a giant Spitfire and the other in an Edge 540. Both of them love the engine and have told me to continue to run it rich for at least a gallon before leaning it out. I cant wait to get to the point were I can lean it out and enjoy the full power this motor puts out as Ive seen on their planes. Both of thease guys are very experienced with gassers and dont have a bad word to say about it.

Re: DLA 56 Engine review

Gassers should be leaned out the first tank. Running them rich is an old glow engine throwback. The extra oil is all that is needed for break in. Long uplines and downlines help the heating /cooling cycles to break in an engine.
As for tuning after break in go by the plug color, black and you are still rich, dark tan to tan is what your aiming for.

Update on mine. It has been working great without any issues. It has been pulling a 27lb Corsair around with authority. Swinging a APC 22x10w prop.

Re: DLA 56 Engine review

Just finished ironing the bugs out of my plane and the engine works fine in my MXS. At first I had starting issues in that it needed an electric starter to start or priming through the carb with raw fuel. I was getting frustrated. After a couple of flights it hand starts like most any gasoline engine. On a cold day the first start takes time. Nothing has come loose on the motor and all I did was use longer bolts for the prop/spinner added thickness and two lock washers for the muffler. I purshased mine at Great Hobbies. We'll see how it goes after more tinkering, I need to use it more.

Hello Mike,

Got my DLA-56 couple of months back but never got the chance to start it yet. Soon i'm planning to and I want to know your needle settings if you won't mind. Thanks a lot.
