I was just wondering what the max flying weight for a dl 50 would be, anyony know?

I know lighter is better but want to know how much weight is too much.
If I had to guess its around 25lbs (but 3d would be sluggish)

any thoughts

Re: max airplane weight for 50cc

I flew one of my large (100" by 16" chord) own design planes at near 25 pounds with a Brison 52cc engine, and it flew pretty good. Would JUST hover... so I figured I was getting about 25 static pounds thrust.

Some scale models over 30 pounds are flying with 50's. But for really good aerobatic performance of course thats too heavy.

3D at 25 pounds will be non existant. Also, the wing area an loading will also factor in.

For decent performance in a 3D plane I am thinking more like 14 to 16 pounds max... not 25.

if its got a wing or two and an engine - I like it!

Re: max airplane weight for 50cc

Chris: I stalled in (read crashed) my 50 c.c. gasser this summer at our flying field. It weighed about 20 pounds. I was practicing landings at the time on a very hot day. (reduced lift) On approach I gave it some up, not realizing fully how much I had cut back on the throttle and in she went. I bought the plane used and felt from the get go that it was a tad heavy but I am not blaming the plane. My point is the same as the one you made that lighter is better and other problems can develope when weight is an issue. I know you know all of the above but thought I would reinforce the issue. Cheers

Re: max airplane weight for 50cc

I'm getting 29.5 pounds out of a DLE55 in an Extreme flight yak 88" at almost 18 pounds (smoke system, dual batts). Pull out is fine but some guys like it to be a rocket. I'd say 20 pounds would be max, for an experienced 3D pilot. For someone still learning extra thrust is very beneficial. Good luck.
