I was lucky enough to come across this kit at my local hobby shop in the spring(in it's original shrink wrap from around 1978!!). it was supposed to be my winter build, but i couldn't wait. here is the rersult so far after about 25 hours of work. i absolutely love the old kits/airplanes from the 70's. i am putting a thunder tiger 46 pro on it(way too much power i know, but it should fly great at about half throttle for those lazy days next spring. cheers, john (will post pics of completed project in a few weeks)

Thumbs up Re: 1978 Carl goldberg Skylark 56 Mark 2 build

I built one of these in the early 80's. It was a great flying plane and a very good low wing trainer. Goldberg made great kits.

Be mindful of the location of the fuel tank relative to the center line of the carburettor.

The Skylark was notorious for having the tank too low when the engine was mounted upright. Motors would go lean 1/2 way into the flight. This could be avoided by side-mounting the engine but you had to cut away one of the cheek cowls to get the engine in sideways. An other solution was to leave the engine upright and have a fuel pump system.

The Skylark was a Falcon 56 with the body upside down and made into a low wing plane. They flew great and better than the trainer.Carl goldberg was a great desiner and a great person to talk to.
