Very insightful and well thought out comments Isabel. I think you simply prove that flying has a lot to do with mental muscle translated into eye hand coordination. Obviously the ability to concentrate, memorize, and visualize has served you well the past few years.

I like the idea of distributing unknowns in the morning. I think unknowns are good for all the reasons pointed out by others, but eliminating the ability not just to socialize, but also to spend time flying on the Saturday night of a contest, is not much fun. I'd personally be happier if unknowns were distributed to everybody on the morning they were to be flown (say an hour in advance). That way I could fly to my heart's content the night before and also not give up a competitive advantage by voluntarily refusing to see the unknown until the morning when everyone else is studying it overnight. It's ironic that on contest weekends I actually fly a lot less than we would normally. Seems counter-productive. Yah I know, most others don't night fly so I'm probably representing a tiny minority here.
