All right, I get the point. I hereby agree to put a "real" "scale" spinner on my plane.

As for cooling, would the air not still have to move away from the hub anyway and be pulled back by the prop regardless of a spinner being there or not?

It would be interesting to try a smoke test to see what happens with and without.

As for aerodynamics, I could see a lack of a spinner causing more turbulance (due to the higher pressure as the flat surface hits the air at the hub center) therefore causing more drag resulting in braking.

Anyone have a wind tunnel we could use?

With out the spinner, fraction of the air molecules will hit the back plate and deflect away, missing the cowl.

My favorite use for a spinner is (would be) keeping the prop on when the prop bolts shear...

I take it you are referring to the Stoney Creek episode.

That definitely would have saved you and Ray a lot of money and time.
