Re: great planes yak 54
I have one of these planes and have been flying it for a couple of seasons.
I'm currently running an MT50 (50cc gas engine - that is now discontinued) I've been running a number of props including: A Xoar 21x8, Xoar 22x8, Falcon 21x8, and a Falcon 22x8.
It flies great with the MT50 engine, with almost unlimited vertical. A DLE 55 would be a great match, with lots of power - but you would have to be careful about ground clearance. 22" is close.
You'll need to reinforce the landing gear area.
Also, the firewall has to be reinforced a bit.
Overall it is a nice plane (it's a bit on the heavy side - compared to some of the other Yaks out there), but it doesn't have any real bad habits.
I definitely would not put anything smaller than a 50cc gas engine in this airplane.
