Building the FLYFLY HOBBY TOPGUN F86 with stock FLYFLY electric retracts. Minimal finishing changes (no-fiberglassing) to keep light. Will be using the Freewing fan and motor on 5000mah 6S. Any idea where I might be expecting to locate the 5000mah 6S battery? Front/middle or aft cockpit? Will add a 9g rudder servo and all others 9g servos (elevators/ailerons/nosewheel steering. Trying to plan the location of RX and battery may dictate longer leads...
Thanks in advance Eric

Re: FLYFLY F86 balance question...
My 6 cell, 5000ma packs are in the middle of the cockpit area. I also have a 700 ma Nicad receiver pack that sits near the aft end of the cockpit space beside the receiver. I have no retracts or rudder servo..

Re: FLYFLY F86 balance question...
Don't forget to reinforce the wing with CF and across the saddle. Search for build thread on RCGroups, you don't want the wings folding on you and they will if not reinforced. The thread also shows how to reinforce the U/c

Re: FLYFLY F86 balance question...
It's already done. I used a carbonfiber/fiberglass arrowshaft across the center and lonk flat CF strips along the lengthwise foam "spar".
Added 1/8" ply in landing gear areas including nose gear. Will post some pics later. Cheers

Re: FLYFLY F86 balance question...
I would still like to see a formation flight of all the Ontario Sabres at next year's Ottawa event. Have you settled on a finishing scheme Eric?

Re: FLYFLY F86 balance question...
Yes, I think it will have black and white stripes on the fuselage where the big yellow one normally goes. It also has similar stripes on the wing tips.

Re: FLYFLY F86 balance question...
I have the new HET 700 series motor and fan in my Sabre and ran it up on the bench for about 1 1/2 seconds. It will be faster I think. I still don't believe any amount of power will push the big fat wings on this jet much faster but, the extra thrust will make the vertical better and the hand launches surefire. I am beginning a refinish job on it and it should be like a whole new plane for the start of flying season. I have ordered a new nose ring from Park Flyer plastics and thought I might as well get the cockpit upgrade as well. I then noticed they now have PET G plastic liners that fit the bottom of the wing tanks, should be more durable for those of us who have forsaken landing gear and who land "belly flop" style on the tanks. When I took the fan out that flew it all last summer I could not believe the chewed up blades. I guess landing on the belly must have some consequences in the form of FOD damage. I will have to start looking inside after landings so stuff doesn't go through the fan on the next launch. Overall, I would say that any plane I ever get from now on will have a lot of trouble exceeding the amount of pure fun this jet has provided this old timer.

Re: FLYFLY F86 balance question...
OOPS, I didn't notice that. Oh well they're ordered now. I guess I'll see when they get here.
I don't think the Sabre and the F-100 tanks are the same. That will teach me to read more carefully. |
