Could you possibly post a couple of pictures of the cowl you have showing the cutout section(S)?

I had a DP Extra 330L cowl that had been cut out for a gasser and I wanted to use the gas engine for another project and install a Saito in the Extra. The cutout was considerable and would have looked terrible with the glow engine used.

I figured out a way to fiberglass the cutout(s) area that worked like a charm. With the repair complete and the cowl cutouts covered with coloured vinyl, you could barely tell where the cutout had been. I had some pics of my repair somewhere. I'll see if I can find them. In the mean time if you could post a pic of your cowl, I'll have a look and see if it could be repaired the same way as mine.

If it will work, I'll post the method I used for you to do. It's a bit of work but you'll save a few $$$ and have a cowl that you know will fit properly!

EDIT TO Include Pics: Here is a couple of pictures of the repaired cowl. I couldn't find a "Before" picture but you must know how large the cutout would have been for a 50cc gas engine and muffler. I used vinyl instead of painting the repair. In the pic you can see a slight colour difference which is the only thing that gives the repair away!

I have used Fiberglass Specialties also, but was also told about another place by someone else on RCCanada.

Maybe this will help ---------- even if you call them with dimensions etc.....

[QUOTE=Gary Maker;766488]Could you possibly post a couple of pictures of the cowl you have showing the cutout section(S)?

Camera batteries are dead and we're heading out of town for the weekend so can't post pics anytime soon. Basically most of the bottom of the cowl has been cut away, likely to accommodate a pitts style muffler, and there are several cutouts on both sides to accommodate glow engines, the worst being a rather large cutout for a side mount muffler.

The cutouts on the side could be repaired, but I'd never be able to replicate the air scoop on the bottom which would look really cool with my engine.

The plane doesn't look terrible as is, and when flying you can hardly tell the difference, however would love to spruce it up a bit. I'm sure if I keep asking around someone's bound to have a spare, or perhaps a hobby shop got stuck with one that was ordered and never picked up.
