Should have crashed my 600 today

I have seen posts where people tell you to check check check. Looking isn't good enough. Yesterday I flew my 600 and changed the blade tracking a couple of times thinking it was me just not getting it right. Today the same thing but this time I had better light and noticed the tracking seemed to change on it's own. I looked at the linkage and links with a bright light and magnafying glass and saw no cracks etc. All looked tight so I twisted the blades back and forth looking for slop and I noticed what seemed to be too much movement. Then I saw it, the ball that is screwed to one of my blade grips seemed to tip when I twisted the blade. Got my new GOOD set of hex drivers out and tried to tighten the ball it would get so tight then keep turning so I knew something was stripped. The blade grip bore was stripped and the threads on the ball were damaged so I will change them both. If this let go in mid flight I would have had one controlable blade and one on self destruct. I expect the damage would have been severe the more I think about it the scarier it gets. I also broke a landing skid from it dancing around because I tighten the blades too tight but that was all that was damaged. So the moral of the story is don't just look at stuff on your heli get your wrenches out and check for tightness because one stripped bolt could do a whole lot of harm.

Yes, blades going out of track on their own is a sure sign that something is loose! Had that happen a few times myself...

Thats also why, especially on a newer bird, I like to hover, fly around a bit and come back into a hover to check things out and then go have fun again.

Sometimes you can catch something when its closer in and stationary that you would miss when flyign around and doing tricks.

if its got a wing or two and an engine - I like it!
