WWII Aircraft Carrier Footage

This video of WWII Aircraft Carriers was sent to me by Chuck B. and I thought it was good enough to share. You can make it full screen and still have a good picture.

I hope you enjoy.

Re: WWII Aircraft Carrier Footage

I did enjoy that Wayne, awesome footage for sure!

In 1965 I was on a Canadian Destroyer Escort, the HMCS Margaree, docked in San Diego Harbor for a three day stop over to refuel and take on supplies before we continued down the US and Mexican coast through the Panama Canal. On the second day I was on station duty watch outside on the main deck and stationed just a few hundred yards away was the USS Enterprise. The term "Floating City" is very appropreate. This ship was massive!

I'd seen pictures of the Enterprise but there was no way I could have fathomed how huge this ship was had I not seen it with my own eyes. The destroyer escort that I was on was 360' long, but by comparison it looked like it could have been a lifeboat for USS Enterprise.

The American Navy was doing some sort of exercises that day and I counted over 100 double bladed Helicopters take off from the flight deck before my duty watch ended, and they were still coming up from the lower decks.

It was truly a fear inspiring sight to behold, a sight that I shall never forget and it was the only time aboard ship that I was happy to have been on duty watch for those amazing 4 hours.

ah, back in the day when a coke was a coke

Neat to see all these old video's enhanced a bit to look better on our new model TV's, don't look like they can do much more to improve picture quality, but gives you an idea what happened.
