I use an XActo and cut three sides of the heavy plastic wrap on the smooth side of my ESCs. That's the heat sink side. This makes a flap that can be folded away from the metal and allow air to get to the hot spot. On some of the larger Turnigys the heat sink is corrigated, but should still be opened up to the air.
What idiot puts heavy insulating stuff over the heat sink in the first place????
The reason for only three sides is to maintain the ESC identification only. If you're confident on future ID of the piece, cut the whole rectangle off.
