Re: Best electric outrunner?

Depends on what you are looking for. I have a couple of Hobbycity smaller one for an indoor flyer and a 30mm for a small electric outdoor and both are great and cheap. If the plane is big and expensive my selection of motors might be more picky but would definately look to see what the turnigy motor were like.

Re: Best electric outrunner?

Hacker, Axi, or Scorpion all three are top shelf motors & have no equals. If you are going big like suggested before go with the best you can afford. Zebra Hobbies have good prices on Hacker motors.BTW. Great Hobbies also sell the Scorpion brand. Good luck with your search.

Re: Best electric outrunner?

I've used larger (up to 50cc power) Turnigy SK motors and they were a bit hit and miss on the quality end of things. I had magnets let go inside the can on my first one causing a nasty dead-stick. The second one I ran seemed decent, though.

They do have some very impressive looking large motors now, though. I have yet to hear any reviews on them, however.

If you want top-notch quality, I'd hit up Scorpion or Plettenberg. Scorpion makes an excellent line of motors with a huge selection of sizes available!

Re: Best electric outrunner?

I've used E-Flite motors from 110 down to their park 180. As a matter of fact thats all I've ever used. I have NEVER had a problem with any of them. Not Once ! You get what you pay for.

Thanks Pat

Re: Best electric outrunner?

Of course, it also is based on what you're planning to put the outrunner in, what you're willing to pay, what you're willing to put up with (problems, customer support).

It's like which is better: a Vespa or a Ford or an Audi or a Maserati?

Hobby King's selection (Turnigy) appears to be a good starting point in the bargain-basement department but you get what you pay for -- cheap prices are usually indicative of corenrs being cut, either in construciton or customer support.

The high-end motors have qulaity, solid customer support or lots of user experience (see forums), but you pay a premium for the name on the label.

I haven't used them myself, but all of them are well made and respected brands.

My favorite of the 'lesser' brands are the Infinite motors from OKHobby. Well made motors that are a notch below the big 3 above, at a fraction of the price.

Re: Best electric outrunner?

There are many hi-end outrunners, just see what the competition fellows are using. Plettenburgs have more efficiency than HK, better bearings, etc.
Also see Actro by Kohler

Icare sells many top outrunners, like Kontronik

Also not mentioned was Neu Motors

or Lehner
