Anyone have one of these set up in a heli
FMA 4-Channel Co-Pilot Flight Stabilization System Incld. Programmer
Now how easy is it to set up,going by the write up in its manufactures propoganda it is very easy to set up and no computer required .Other than being able to download upgrades from the net. Does it work ,how well does it do its intended job. When set up could you give the radio to a complete stranger to Heli's tell him what sticks do what and if kept at a certain height it could recover
Is it easier to set up than the KDS flymentor (guess you would have to have had one of those to answer that) I had a KDS Flymentor and without knowing all the technical terms or questions it asked wasn't able set up my heli properly . I have the 550 size heli, the ability to mechanically set it up ,a younblood gyro that is so easy to set up just net a Stabilizer to help with the other forces on a heli then I maybe able to learn to fly . Thanks in advance for your comments

Re: FMA Co Pilot II

I've never used CPII ... but I have used its clone, the FlyMentor 3D. I have it set up on my Blade 400 as a bail out and to train my 5yo son how to fly a CP heli.

My experience with the FM3D was a little complicated, but once installed, it works fantastic. The key is to make sure you start with a vibration free heli, and watch the rotor disc on startup. Don't try to lift off until you're sure that the rotor disc is staying level. Plug the heli in on a level surface and don't move the heli until fully intialized.

Set it up in balance/stabilisation mode and use the built-in gains on the unit first (ie; don't connect the gain wires to your RX until you have it setup - should default to the programmed gyro gains).

Also on lift off, don't touch the cyclic until you're in the air. You'll confuse the gyro and end up with a catastrophic tip over.

Keep in mind, these are my experiences with the FM3D, but I would expect that since it's a clone of the CPII, much of this can be carried over in some form or another.

Good luck !!

Re: FMA Co Pilot II

I have both..Flymentor is a clone of the heli command not CPII..The CPII is alot easier to set up.Flymentor can be flown indoors or at night but positioning mode wont work safely inside and preferably over green grass so it has something to look at..Check out the threads over on HF.They will walk you through set up on both the FM and CP2..Lots of good info on both systems there
