Non Toxic paint finishes

Hi Guys. I am starting to get to the finishing stages of a 1/3rd 1928 Heath Baby Bullet. I am finishing it with coverall and intend to stick/seal it to the balsa using Balsarite.

I want to get away from the dope days, even though I love the smell and the finish. Am running glow fuel.

Any recommendations on product that is none toxic, will fill the weave and be durable yet not add too much weight??? Thanks.

Re: Non Toxic paint finishes

I have heard but not have tried it yet. On sig coverall, seal it with MinWax
Polycrylic. For colour, Acrylic Latex Esterior. For glo fuel proofer, Clear Satin
PolyUrethane. I will do samples checks before using. Another thing to
consider about fuel proofing.....your burnoff fuel contains very little methanol
if any. If you put raw 10 or 15% fuel on most finnish you will see a smear.
For gassies you dont have to put a coat of polyurethane.

+1 to the above.
I used this process on my norseman and it seems to have worked well.
I'll be running gas so I did not clear coat over the latex. Weight will depend on how well you use your paint gun!
I also learned that the weave must be completely sealed, I found it hard to tell when it was, once paint was applied the places that were not became obvious!

Good luck

Re: Non Toxic paint finishes

John,

I have used latex paint on a couple of planes with good results. I used the information from the follwoing website, http://www.vaillyaviation.com/Intro.html. If you look down the left side of the page there is a link for using latex house paints on models, parts 1 and 2.

Good luck,

Chris
