I have ordered 8 times from HobbyKing in the last month and everything came through Canada Post with no problems. One of the reasons you may have not been able to ship something from the US warehouse is that you purchased in the wrong store. HobbyKing has an "international" and "US" warehouse and you have to order from the right one. You cannot order from both warehouses in the same order. Also, do not order lipo batteries by mail and expect them to arrive these days. Canada Customs has new rules about that and they won't allow shipments that contain batteries by post office. I actually prefer to order from the HK warehouse of HobbyKing because when ordering too much stuff from the US warehouse they use UPS and its ridiculously expensive. The longest I have had to wait was about 8 days for them to get a 1/4 scale gokart kit from their secondary warehouse but other than that they always ship fast. My last 2 orders, placed on different days, were both shipped 24 hours after the second order was placed. You have to remember that many times the HKPost office does not update the tracking number info on really small parcels, especially anything classed as "lettermail", very often. I have had a shipment show up at my door the day after it finally showed in their tracking site.
I'm a customs broker and logistics consultant and have a lot of experience with ordering from HK, I would recommend keeping orders under 250 bucks as it keeps the parcels smaller, which usually means faster shipping, and its less a problem if something goes wrong. Regarding ordering over Xmas. Its simple, DON'T!!!!!, If you don't order before November 15th, then wait until about January 10th to let CP get rid of their backlog. That's just the way CP is, can't do anything about it.
I also use RCMart.com, and RC711.com, both are excellent for service and price. RCMart has some great stuff at very cheap prices compared to anywhere else I have seen.
Good Luck with your orders.
