Hinges on EPO Foamies

Recently bought a motorized sailplane at the Toledo Show.
It is an Eagle 1 sold by Cermark.
My concern is that there are no hinges per say for the control surfaces.
Being an all foam construction...where the separation between aileron
and wing....there are no hinges...but a pressed-in area along that line
which is to act as a hinge. Its movement is under resistance and control
throw restricted. The servos supplied with this ARF are very small
they look more like 9gs to me. All to say, they are not adequate.

My question....have you guys seen this on some other foamies?
Will they loosen up with use?

I am thinking of cutting them out and use Eflyer tape for the hinges.

Your help would greatly be appreciated.

I would use tape over the area where a hinge should be and use your fingernail to match the indent on the wing. Should last till you get tired of the plane

Re: Hinges on EPO Foamies

I've found those types of hinges stiff too. What I do is leave about an 1/1/2 at the tip and slice through the hinge line to near the centre of the ail, leave another 1 1/2 in. then slice into the centre, leaving another 1 1/2 in. So you end up with 3 hinges. I do the same with the tail surfaces too. Cuts down the stiffness by at least half.
Tried for my kamikazi pilots licence. Flunked the test.
