Solved - Is my transmitter defective? (DX8)

SOLVED - Transmitter ( DX8 ) was in Heli Mode, not Airplane
Need some help to confirm...Brand new DX8 and here is the issue - when calibrating in Phoenix flight sim v3 - movement on the throttle registers on channel 1 AND 6.
The gear switch does not register at all.
So all other axises register as moving on only one channel, except the throttle which moves both 1 & 6 as I have said.
Interestingly, if I select a plane with retracts, the flaps switch activates them - not the gear switch.
Also, does anyone with Phoenix v3 know of a specific aircraft which does have flaps so I can confirm also if any switches can operate them.
Strikes me as defective, any comments or suggestions???
Could be the sim - that's why I'm asking for input from those with v3 as well.
Thx for any help.

Bouncing about the living room, my then three year old grandson declared himself "a kangaroo".
"If you're a Kangaroo, what is Grampie", I ask.
His reply: "you a dinosaur"
