450 PRO main shaft design opinions ?

Please excuse all the newbie questions

I'm ordering some spares for my newly acquired 450 PRO clone.
I see one main rotor shaft design that has a groove cut into the middle and uses a collar and set-screw for a stop, the other has a bump on the shaft in the same location as the groove on the other design.
What are the pros and cons for each ? Is one better than the other for easier removal during repair ?

Re: 450 PRO main shaft design opinions ?

I don't have the pro, but they are basically the same. The shaft using the collar and set screw would be your bet for easy set up and adjustment and getting the correct end play and without bearing bind. The shaft using the bump as you called it, may require shims at the main gear end to get the correct end play without bearing bind. This may be incorrect, so please excuse me if I'm wrong.

After looking at the manual, shims are used but on the top bearing and against the bump on the shaft.
It's okay Pluto, I'm not a Planet either.

Re: 450 PRO main shaft design opinions ?

Really, they're about the same in terms of ease of use. The pro shaft is the one that just has a flange and requires shims. If you do get the pro shaft, just remember that the Align logo goes between the head blocks and not up above. The ends are very similar in length so it's easy to get it turned around and then wonder why in the world you have so much up and down play.
