Hi, help needed for a new hobby

Well, my wife told me to find something a little bit cheaper to do besides building cars, so I thought this would work out at first. Now I see I can spend just as much on this, how she will like that.
Anyways, I'm looking to buy a car in the next month or two, and am looking at the Tamiya kits, there seems to be plenty of changeability there. This is the kit I'm looking at to get started with in particular.
What batteries and controller, etc. would be best to buy straight off the bat, not the most expensive and not the cheapest.

Re: Hi, help needed for a new hobby

Hi there,

With that particular model, by the way, it is a good model to begin your RC venture, is an ARR, meaning, you would require to build the model, trim and paint the body, and set-up. You will require a radio, receiver, stick pack battery, and servo for the steering.

The kit comes with a 540 brushed motor and Electronic Speed Control (ESC). You could purchase a 2.4GHz radio/receiver combo from any of the major manufacturers. I prefer Spektrum (I own a DX3R & DX3S). However, Futaba also makes good equipment. It is just a matter of preference.

If you like, you could upgrade the brushed motor/ESC to a brushless/ESC and use LiPo batteries. The performance will be night and day from brushed/ESC and brushless/ESC!

Anyway, visit your LHS and they would have more options and suggestions for you.

In the meantime, enjoy the hobby, have fun, and good luck...
