But what on Gods Green earth would you do with 18 channels ?!??!?

Good grief
It's not that hard on turbine models ie:

emergency engine kill
2x Aileron
2x Flap
2x Elevator
1 or maybe 2x Rudder
1x nose gear steering
1x retracts
1 or maybe 2 for gear doors depending on configuration
1x brakes
1x smoke system
1x speed brake, maybe also dive brake depending on aircraft

That could be 18 possible right there, HA HA maybe they should have come out with a 24MZ!

I think I'll wait for the 24MZ... 18 just isn't enough for me...

Re: New Futaba 18Mz

I used 12 on my super scorpion. 4 in the wing,2 for rudder,2 for elevator,1 for nose wheel,1 for throttle,1 for airbrake and 1 on a combined gear/brakes valve(had to save a channel). Why 2 for rudder? So the rudders turn in for take offs and landings. All done on a 12fg.

Re: New Futaba 18Mz

Gear door sequencing can be programmed at the radio instead of using a sequencer in the plane. Retracts where there are complex door opening and closing could easily be 3 or 4 channels. Dual rudders, etc etc. Controlling scale features such as animated pilots/cockpit. There's tons u can do without the limitations of 10 or 12 channels.
