O.K guys seeing as how my bird is almost ready.....What are your thoughts on securing method in your trailers. I've been looking through a very thorough thread on FG and have some great ideas....Just wondering specifically about the tail wheel. I heard they can get "stressed" by the bouncing (which I'm a little skeptical about to be honest) you use a block of foam or something for the aft part of the fuse? And if so how are you then securing it?

I know it's not rocket science, just don't feel like I need to re-invent the wheel here....

Re: Trailer Setup

I always put a 1" to 2" block of foam rubber under the tailwheel when transporting planes in the back of my truck to absorb some of the shock that it gets from bouncing. I never secure the tail as the mains are already secured and it shouldn't go anywhere.

I use scavenged foam from old sofa cushions for this purpose.

You can fly Hitec or use the other "low tech" stuff!!

A little expensive, but worth the peace of mind.

Some guys also make their own versoin using barn door/fence hinges, much cheaper.

Re: Trailer Setup

i use brackets secured to the trailer to hold and secure my tailwheels up off the floor ,i also have hinges mounted on the floor to secure the front landing gear.this setup has worked for two seasons very well with not one plane coming loose during transportation.

Me too!!! I've got 3 sets in my trailer - a 50cc set and two 150cc sets. I have used them now for 4 years with never a problem and I've never had damage to my planes. Living in the Montreal area for 2009/2010 (brutal roads) and using the trailer 2-3 times per week is about as extreme of a test as one can get

I now have one of the 150cc sets in use holding my 58% Pitts to the trailer floor and it's rock-solid!!!

With the amount we spend on our airplanes, the cost of these GearLegs is nothing!!!! They're the cost of a high-end servo!!!!!!!!

3DFLYER; where do you buy that foil bubble wrap you use to make your wing bags?
