Zenoah G20ei intake VENTURI question??

Howdy all,

quick question, I have the Zenoah G20ei with the bolted on venturi intake onto the carb. I am putting this engine in my 1/4 scale taylorcraft cowl and the venturi is getting close to edge of cowl. If I go without the venturi it fits quite well, but with it on I might have to dremel out the cowl.

I see some engines......ie. Evolution 26cc has no venturi on the carb intake. Anyone running the G20 without the venturi?? Its a side mount carb so with the venturi its a very wide setup for inside a cowl.

thx much.

Re: Zenoah G20ei intake VENTURI question??

I had the same situation with a plane I am building and ended up purchasing an elbow for the carb from Toni Clark at the following web site: http://www.toni-clark.com/Default.htm. Go to the English section, then Zenoah Engines, Titan ZG20, Carburetor Intake Bend. The carb bend makes it so that venturi faces the back of the plane rather than sticking straight out the side.

In my communications with them they indicated that the venturi, in their experience, is very important and they have had issues when it is removed.

Good luck.

They run fine without the venturi. May have to readjust the carb and there may be a little slober on the inside of the cowl.
Tried for my kamikazi pilots licence. Flunked the test.

I agree!

The primary purpose of the venturi is to contain the fuel stand off created when the intake port closes & the air through the carb suddenly stops moving causing fuel to spit back out the wrong way.

Same thing occurs on automotive carbs without air cleaners. Thus the velocity stacks seen on Weber & Dellorto carbs at the race track!

There may be a slight performance gain due to smoother air transition with the venturi on, but probably not measurable.

Just richen 'er up & keep a rag handy!

No Venturi? no problem!

I run two of these engines on a kitbashed f-82 Twin mustang and they run fine without the venturi.
